3:08 and all's well! <chime chime chime>

All this time at Berkeley I've been looking for something, and I think I may have finally found something like it. I've been searching for some kind of community in the Engineering college, and when I peeked into the Computer Science Undergraduate Association office last week, I knew almost immediately that I'd found it. Friendly people. Not excessively geeky. Interesting projects. Cool atmosphere. Wow.

I logged into soda.csua.berkeley.edu and popped into the IRC channel #cusa. Immediately, dans greets me, and, after a moment's pause, adds "Unless I've got my tobins confused, you're of splorg.org fame." Wow, I'm known.

Slightly before that I received what might possibly be the coolest email I've ever received. Actually, my reason for showing up in #csua in the first place:

are you an undergrad? Were you a ta for something? I seem to have seen your name before. Anyway, should you wish, your presence is invited at the "hive mind" located at server: {irc.ocf.berkeley.edu, ugrad.csua.berkeley.edu} channel #csua (i.e. your research looks interesting and some ppl wanted to talk to you about it).

I'm just sad that it took me four years to discover this group.

Other than that, everything's just the same as it used to be. Pining woefully and futilely after girls who are lesbians, and all that.

yay for community... i was once a physics major, but it turned out that physics students were competitive on the cutthroat level. so now i am a geophysics major, and it seems sometimes that everyone in the geology department has slept with at least one other person in the department. we are all about community, yessir.

and as for the lesbians, at least you don't date them for months or years, and then break up, soon after which they decide they are a lesbian, thus leaving you wondering a great deal about your own sexuality. because that scenario has happened to a disturbing number of my friends. it happened to one of them twice, even! you're really much better off without that.
