(no subject)

Productivity has been pretty low lately, and I've been feeling generally bored. In the mornings sometimes I do experience the sublime pleasure of making good progress learning something, all nicely caffeinated, fed, and fresh, with the stereo blasting in my office (ah, the benefits of concrete walls and an absentee officemate) and the sun streaming in the window. Yes: It's Springtime in Rochester. One day the snow disappeared and the flowers sprouted, all at once. Anyways, as I was saying, productivity is low. I need some exciting project and new, exciting people. As it is it is 03:00 on Friday night and I am reading about the Federal Reserve System! I have been good this week about bringing lunches from home, but I still end up buying supplemental food at school. I keep trying new things in the Pit (a sort of cafeteria, appropriately named) in the hope that something there will be {affordable, edible, healthy} but apparently it's a lost cause.

Maybe I'll learn French and move to Montréal.

Hey Tobin -- I am working on an essay that is due in San Francisco by Monday. I hear ya on the "low productivity" end.

Man, how come there aren't 10 SEK falafels EVERYWHERE, huh?

so i've been feeling about the same as you sound. tired, unproductive and bored, despite the fact that my thesis needs finishing, urgently. i was complaining about it to one of the Germans and they decided it was die Frühjahrsmüdigkeit...

Mmm. Falafel. I should make some. I don't think I have seen a Falafel in my entire time in Rochester. (In Ithaca, yes.)

What an odd word. What a strange concept. Googling reveals similar concepts of "Herbstdepression" and "Winterschlaf." And, of course, the remaining season is pronounced, "Cannes."

It's also known as springfever.

I can teach you French!

there is definitely plenty of falafel in rochester! try: Sinbad's, Alexandria's, Mykonos, Basha...

one of my favorite foods! I especially like Sinbad's on park. Try the falafel pitza!

see see, that's right! I've been telling him to eat at Sinbad's too, but does he listen? No. (or maybe he does but realizes they are not too cheap... oh well.)

Poor Tob, caught in the academic molasses I know all too well... in fact, I suddenly came to an epiphany a week ago about myself and what I like and want to do, and now I'm in a frenzy making plans to get trained in the digital audio industry, to become qualified for working in audio post production (e.g. sound for film, game audio, etc.), and it's exhilarating since for once I actually managed to suddenly understand myself and why things haven't "felt right" trying to push out journal articles and what not. More on this later. Anyone got like an extra $100K to get me started? ha ha. Anyone know anything about these guys (http://www.pyramind.com)? I'm seriously considering taking courses in their certificate program starting this May.

Oui, oui!

Sauf que ce qu'ils parlent au quebec c'est pas le francais. :)

It was called Fruehlingsliebezeit when I was in Austria. I guess that only applies to couples. In anycase...I totally hear you on the tired and unproductive end. I cannot wait until classes are done with. I would like to go camping for like a month and a half...I don't think that is in the cards though. Perhaps a long weekend though...?

So the bio department is trying to start a River Campus Softball league. Are the physicses interested?

I've never heard of it in either language. Spring is supposed to be exciting and invigorating! And it is.

Odd, the idea of springfever is a pretty common one for me growing up (both in my family and in school). It is invigorating, you want to be outside and bring active and traveling, not inside and studying.
