(no subject)

regarding that "unique experiences" meme, I present:

1. was born in los angeles in 1980

2. drank coffee at perk's in baton rouge at 4:31pm on july 5, 2008

3. currently can see a banana tree out the window

or, if you want slightly more exciting material:

4. partied with stephen hawking

5. drove to inuvik, nwt

6. hitchhiked 1000 miles in mexico

perhaps a more interesting query is, "what are the three most bizarre things that have happened to you through absolutely no action of your own"?

July 4

We spent the whole night at work on July 3 - July 4, then came home to Baton Rouge and walked to the coffee shop and found it closed for the holiday, and searched the internet for july 4 garage sales. When else is one awake that early? No luck on the garage sales. They were all out in Zachary and Denham Springs and Gonzales. In Baton Rouge they had jet aircraft strafe the USS Kidd, a destroyer parked in the river here, and there was the snap-crackle-and-pop of fireworks, but I slept through all that. In the evening my new advisor Gaby made dinner for me and Kate and Rana (v.good: salmon with blue cheese dressing, potatoes, asparagus, green salad with cherry tomatoes; ice cream and fruit for desert; and of course scotch whisky, of which Gaby's household is expert and I am novice). Drove home and slept again, woke up late today. Today boycotting work in favor of Wasting Time on the Internet and drinking coffee and maybe trying to change the oil in my car.

oil change

Completed my first oil change. I know, I know! I even managed to not get totally covered in motor oil. The whole thing was very easy, except for the creepiness of working under a car supported by suspiciously cheap jackstands. I noticed that one of the inner CV boots is cracked, so there's another task on the to-do list...
