Yossi and Jagger, and The Fog of War

Jenny Jo and Arom were disappointed with my lack of enthusiasm for the upcoming release of the latest Tolkien film — "What kind of nerd are you?" I was asked when I admitted that I haven't even seen the first two films. Jenny Jo then said, "It's okay. One of my friends recently lost all of her dorkiness points because she didn't even know what a D12 is." ("uh, what's a D12?" "A twelve-sided die, my dear," she admonishes with a look resembling pity — she really is a classy broad, you must understand.) But I got excited today because I found out that they're making a movie about McNamara, so I guess I'm just a different kind of geek. (With music by Philip Glass, who I know from Koyaanisqatsi, which, let me remind you, was written in part by a Fricke.)

Diane and Kenny and I went out tonight to see Yossi and Jagger at Landmark Act 1 and 2, and then we enjoyed Thai food at Little Plearn. It was fun seeing an Israeli film... I wish we'd get more (and if you want to see it in Berkeley, you have until Thursday). Check out the pictures from yesterday's post-industrial pirate island adventures in [livejournal.com profile] roxymartini's journal.

Is Friendster making a resurgence of some time? Three new testimonials in one day. Such niftiness.

Wurster Hall, and multiplying 2's complement numbers

Nick gave me a short tour of Wurster Hall. What a cool place! Must explore further...

Brandon sent me the following algorithm to multiply two's complement numbers. I needed to invoke Kenny to help decipher it!

  1. Use regular unsigned multiplication to compute A*B → H:L.
  2. If A<0, set H ← (H - B).
  3. If B<0, set H ← (H - A).
