Holy #$@#! -- This is my aunt's cabin at Tweedy, photograph from this weekend (published in the LA Times):



I think that cabin was saved. Word has it that the Ransom cabin was saved only because of luck and timing -- dawn came and the water-dropping helocopters extinguished the blaze only 250 FEET from the cabin!

Today I came south on I-5 from a trip to Berkeley, and we could see the flames in the distance...

Every time I see these pictures I wonder if I know someone who's house is nearby (four people in the last fire I knew were a few hundred feet or less, one person I know lost their home in the Oakland fire.

Hope the fire is contained....

I'm really just waiting until the terrorists figure out that burning down national forests is a really simple way to cause extreme havoc and destruction - much more so than crashing planes into things, and oftentimes, nearly as effective.
