San Diego - fraternities

I spammed the UCSD fraternities asking about summer housing. I received the following response:

Unfortunately here at UCSD we do not have houses.

It's a strange, strange world.

They don't have co-ops either, but that's less surprising.

I created a wiki page to track these SanDiego oddities.

that is one of the funniest lines I have ever seen on LJ.

unfortunately here at UCSD we do not have houses -

I am laughing so hard that I think the bikes below my window are falling like dominos!!!

Not terribly surprising given that UCSD is a relatively new university, and one with a much more primarily academic focus than most universities. (Chicago and Columbia are the obvious comparisons to me, though I actually don't know too terribly much about any of them, just the stereotypes.)

Also, at Stanford, sororities were all unhoused between the 1950s and the late 1990s. I think it had to do with body image and other dangerous behavior associated with sororities. I'm not sure why they evicted the sororities but not the fraternities though. I think the rehousing may have something to do with the fact that all sororities are now officially dry nationwide.

At Santa Cruz there is no official frat housing on campus. The frats and sororities used to only exist unofficially on campus. I remember one year a sorority managed to get housed all in one hallway of a dorm, so it became their defacto sorority house.
There must be some off campus, but I never heard of their houses while I lived there. Of course, since them the fraternities have taken a lot of heat due to the fish eating incident. I know there are a lot of food and housing co-ops off campus, though.

Here at State, Fraternity Court is where all the on campus fraternity housing is. All the buildings look alike, and they are extremely ugly. Sadly, I could find no pictures offhand to show you.
