Today was the first overcast, dreary day (weather-wise that is) this semester, the kind where it feels completely natural to stay in bed until noon and then just drink hot chocolate while reading a good book (I am reading Riverhorse right now). (Mr. Carlson would cite the calming effects of negative ions.) I find it quite nice to have a day like this between the warm, sunny days, but I know the rains are coming and then I'll long for the brilliant, sunny days again. And I think of my friends in Göteborg, Lund, and Tallinn, and the snows and rains falling on them already and I am grateful for our prolonged summer here, yet wistfully I consider how soon I might be able to make a visit to those people and places.
