The "funny" thing is, it would actually have been significantly cheaper for me to buy a new, round-trip CPH to LAX plane ticket (on virgin atlantic no less!), and only use one half of the ticket (or better yet -- use it to come back sometime next year!), than it cost to change my existing ticket (originally "free" since the U.S. Govt bought it, but with a ridiculously huge, one could say extortionist, penalty for changing the date) and to get myself from CPH to London. I love the airline industry!

Of course not, but your post made it sound like the cost to change the ticket was actually more than the cost of a new ticket (in which case, it would have been cheaper for you to ditch the old ticket and buy a new one).

Yes, that's exactly the case. Now why do you think I didn't buy the new ticket?
